So we were attending the wedding of my cousin on the West Coast of Ireland this weekend and it was lots of fun. She asked all female guests on our side of the family to come barefooted.
On the Firday before me and Jennifer tried on the dresses at home. We had flats on but someone said to take them off and show how we'd look on the day and we did. Our dad had like an "oh wow" look.
The next day the day of the wedding so crazy slipping off our shoes as we headed out. It was tricky walking on the concrete of the pavement barefoot especially at the beginning. The ceremony was you would expect nothing too eventful but I always get a bit teary at weddings and I don't know why. The priest was a bit boring and mumbled a lot which was disappointing. Bride and groom both looking superb. Me and Jennifer were standing up at the top of the church in a comically large bridal party.
We took a lot of pictures on a grassy area outside. It was nice getting to go barefoot in the grass and got lots of looks too which was nice.
Later walking on the concrete to the hotel was one of the trickiest bits and a few including our Jennifer ended up with minor cuts but nothing serious.
The weather was good for the earlier parts when we were predominantally outdoors which was lucky as later there was a heavy storm.
The food was really nice. As usual I went for the chicken option. It was in a roquefort sauce and really good. Jen had some fish option. Dessert was Creme Brulee. I'm the type of person that always enjoys the dessert the most, terribly sweet-toothed and this was amazing, so tasty.
The speeches seemed to go on for ever. Especially from his side of the family. They are a chatty bunch. I did a short speech with Jennifer and my other sister, Kate but it was short and sweet. Kate's husband and young son seemed quite happy with her going barefoot too. She was a lot less keen on this idea originally but I talked her around it.
It was nice to see everyone barefoot including some people I'd never seen like that before. Generally everyone who did had some fairly nice feet.
The lack of shoes made dancing the night away so much easier and there was a good dj. I don't know the name of the song that was there first . Jen googled it at the time but I since forgot. It's quite modern, upbeat and not particularly famous.
I noticed a lot more flirtation than I noticed at previous weddings with at least one single person spending the night with someone. I was there without a partner so like 2 guys chatted me up but I let them know I was taken.
There was a free bar so that was lots of fun, me and Jennifer got back to the room at about 3am and were able to sleep until about 11am when they were banging on the door about leaving. We got to have a braekfast buffet first with a Champagne breakfast. Still barefooted too. I wanted to wish my cousin congratualations in person one more time but she seemed to have left already.
They are going to Thailand for their honeymoon which is something as she is a bit of a homebird. They will also visit me in Spain in September.
