An American holiday that maybe people all over the planet should adopt. In essence a day to celebrate the good things you have in your life with a good meal , family /friends It spread to Canada and is celebrated here in The Philippines.
People trace it's origins to centuries ago when the Indians asked European settlers to come to dinner . Got more popular in the 1860's when the North began to win the Civil War with people happy the war was ending .
Basically low key . No fireworks like 4th of July and not the expensive madhouse that runs thru December , and the almost fake holiday of NYE . Just a good meal & people enjoying each other , on tv there are Santa parades from several big cities & national/local football games
As a kid can't recall ever having a Thanksgiving dinner or about any other holiday .My mother wud have had to have been sober to cook .For the 4 years my mother was married to a soldier who made her cook but after they got divorced it was back to doing nothing . Things got better when I was 13 , my friends and I went out the nite before on the buses and the next day went to one of the girls homes for my first Thanksgiving dinner Have managed to celebrate the holiday from then on ( including fun the nite before ) wherever I am
Tomorrow will be doing something for Thanksgiving Eve and on Thanksgiving itself will be going out with Mr Man ( aka Mr American Express Gold Card ) for dinner with a group at a restaurant .
All readers no matter where you are : Start having your own Thanksgiving holiday , it will be fun & a great tradition .
