A thread devoted to going without shoes!
I will go barefoot tomorrow(weather permitting) I will spend the afternoon walking across the Turia Park. This was where Valencia's river once flowed, but they drained it due to flooding and made it into a nice park the length of the city. It's a nice grassy surface so a good place to go walking sans shoes.
In preparation, I've soaked my feet, exfoliated, moisturised, trimmed the nails and painted my nails dark red.

It was a nice walk. I started in the West and headed towards the sea. Nice weather for it too! Really warm!

Cloudy here today, but it's due to get better.
One of the joys of working at home is that shoes are optional.

Comfort is everything and unless you are walking on rocks or a hot or cold sidewalk being barefoot does that ! Also a way to show you are relaxed maybe even up for something with others Thinking about this thread brought back memories of being told by staff to put my shoes back on at THE AIR & SPACE MUSEUM in WASHINGTON DC , The MUSEUM OF CIVILIZATION in OTTAWA , THE MUSEUM OF THE CHINESE REVOLUTION in BEIJING , the SISTINE CHAPEL in ROME , THE MUSEUM Of MODERN ART in NYC , LOUISVILLE'S very own SPEED ART MUSEUM as well as both the NATIONAL MUSEUM & NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ANTHROPOLOGY here in MANILA However for some reason was not bothered at the CANADIAN NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART , GEORGE WASHINGTON'S MOUNT VERNON plantation , THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART in NYC , and mosques in Malaysia & Indonesia but they don't count since you don't wear shoes in mosques Maybe I should switch from being a Catholic to Muslim ? Back in Louisville had to be on my feet in heels for 9-10 hours a day which could be torture especially as the nite wore on .So protected myself often going barefoot including at the desk I used to have in the lobby , on the guest floors , and during the slow time from late November to NYE . There were slow nites when to liven myself up wud take of my heels and slide across the marble floor in the lobby or se how far I could kick my heels in the Grande Ballroom . In warmer months wud routinely take off the heel things going barefoot to my . I noticed other female staffers wud follow my lead. Whenever I helped at the front desk ( had thick carpeting ) or Concierge Desk wud notice seeing me in stocking feet wud have most or all of the girls taking their shoes off too I am usually barefoot under my desk in the office . Today I was barefoot all day except when we went to lunch and after walking out the front door to the taxi

That's a shame they wouldn't allow you go barefoot in so many Museums. Can bare feet be any more dirty than really dirty shoes?
Similar to your Hillbilly tradition, in Ireland it's traditional (especially for girls) to go barefoot in the summer. When I was growing up from about May to September in the summer we'd only have one pair of formal shoes for going to school and going out but around the house and while outside we'd be barefoot. It's a tradition I try to keep up when I can.
It's more comfortable, saves money on shoes not really needed in the warmth and makes your feet healthier and stronger.
I'd be a bit afraid to go barefoot in a Museum or a cinema or restaurant or something in case I got told off, but happy to go sans shoes in the park and around the city.
Sliding around on the marble barefoot at work sounds super fun and it's cool they were ok with it and even followed your lead.

Being barefoot anyplace is more comfortable then shoes and the ex and I wud joke one or both of us going barefoot was bringing a common touch to important places like museums & historical sites I was able to take my heels off and slide across the floor since as ass't general manger of the hotel I was the boss . I found kicking one's s heels off in the Grande Ballroom was a good ice breaker as well as a peek into people's personalty .My manager trainee Martine was very smart & mature appreciated the break from seriousness & humor . Dee Dee who was Ms Bubbling Personality & had been a high school, college cheerleader loved being so demonstrative .Snotty manager trainee Roxanne just glared at me when I brought up the idea and the ice princess Abby who was my replacement really got into it telling me how competitive she is about everything as she kicked her heels off sending them further across the room then I ever . In my defense she was 3 " taller then me with long legs . I have also have gone barefoot on the train between Venice & Rome as well as several times across the Pacific & Atlantic Oceans except when going to the bathroom since a friend who was a flight attendant warned me the floors of airplane bathrooms are a bio-hazard zone . Earlier tonite was down in the lobby barefoot with a mainly Australian group with another woman who was in her stocking feet .
